Our 1st guest today is Robert K.C. Forman, Ph.D., author of “ Enlightenment Ain’t What It’s Cracked Up To Be:  A Journey of Discovery, Snow and Jazz in the Soul”. Many millions are spending years and years seeking such the state of spiritual enlightenment, yet are looking in the wrong place for the real life goal.  For what Dr. Forman has learned in his long journey is that what we modern westerners are really after is not a shift in a state of consciousness but a shift in a life. The revolutionary Enlightenment Is Not All It’s Cracked Up To Be: A Journey of Discovery, Snow and Jazz in the Soul  tells just what it’s like, and not like, and offers sane and experienced guidance to folks who are convinced they don’t have “the right stuff” to achieve enlightenment in this lifetime…or who are disillusioned by spiritual teachers who don’t live up to their lofty self-portraits…or who are worried that choosing a spiritual life means leaving their everyday life behind…and hungry for a different way to be, but unable to express it.

Enzymes provide the life that goes into each and every cell within our body.  Without enzymes, there would be no life on earth.  All living organic matter is developed from enzymes! ZymeAway will not harm or damage any washable surface.  Use for kitchen cleaning, appliances (inside and out), all counters, floors and washable fixtures.  Carpeting, clothing, bedding and laundry are cleaned of odors and all organic dirt, debris, fats, oils, and greases.

Our First Guest is Martin Kihn the author of BAD DOG (A Love Story), this memoir answers the question everyone seems to be asking these days: can a dog improve your health? In Martin Kihn’s case, a dog kept him sober.  BAD DOG (A Love Story) is NOT a typical, fuzzy dog book. The premise: Man gets drunk; man gets dog; man, because studiously inebriated, fails to impart an ounce of discipline on dog. Here is a story about a man’s struggle to stay sober and tame an unruly, but irresistible Bernese mountain dog named Hola. This book proves dogs’ salubrious effects on humans—both mentally and physically.

Our First Guest George Minkoff, historian and author of “The Leaves of Fate”, discusses our show topic today “Does Our Economy's Short-Term Focus Have a Basis?”  Mr. Minkoff says “No matter the era, no matter the economic crisis, the short term is what we’ve always gravitated toward.”  One of the primary causes of the last recession was how mortgage brokers forced by government policy, offered a wide variety of high risk loan products like Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM) to consumers, then spread the inherent risk in these loans to other investors by derivatives. In his book he relates how it was the same in Jamestown when the English were convinced by John Rolfe, one of Smith’s contemporaries, to farm tobacco in order to save the economically troubled Jamestown.

It worked for their purposes, but it also led us down the slippery slope towards slavery, and a very volatile economic future.  Smith was opposed to building a colony on the farming of tobacco.  He championed wealth by fishing the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New England.     www.mcphersonco.com   www.minkoffbooks.com

Over the past decade the Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC) has encountered a series of budget reductions that total over seven million dollars or approximately 30% of our traditional funding levels.  The Recreation Commission and CRC administration have worked hard during this period to minimize the service impacts where possible; however, reductions of this size ultimately result in facility closures and reduced service hours.  This year the department’s budget reduction totaled $2.2 million and has resulted in the planned closure of nineteen public pools and two recreation centers. Our Guest Dr. Merrifield will address the latest efforts in keeping the pools open this summer.

She wanted to play games where people cooperate, rather than compete, to help each other win prizes. Erin Chase- $5.00 Dinner Cookbook-, also known as The $5 Dinner Mom, will discuss tips  today on economizing during this upcoming Holiday Season.  Erin says I have a little problem. I can not make a meal that costs more than $5. Even if I try. My brain will no longer allow it. It’s filled with prices on my favorite products. It races through recipes and numbers as I go through the grocery store, wondering ‘can I pull off that meal for less than $5? Is that price on those chicken breasts too high to swing a $5 meal?’ It’s unnatural, really. But, my pocketbook thanks me! Funny and entertaining.

Russ Irving author of “Don’t Overlook the Obvious” discusses how to IMPROVE YOUR MARRIAGE - DON'T OVERLOOK THE OBVIOUS. His book is a compilation of over 500, to-the-point, pieces of practical ideas and statements. It's the type of advice that your parents, friends, or clergy would have offered in the past, but is seldom offered these days. It recognizes that most marital problems have basic solutions. And, that virtually every marriage can be made better!  It does not advocate a 'one size fits all' mentality. It avoids psychobabble, 20-syllable words, and unnecessary narrative. - It does use a format found in a number of books previously on the NY Times' Best Sellers list. With a few sentences this powerful, common sense often over-looked advice it’s a must read.

Today we will be discussing with Edward Meyer, VP of Exhibits and Archives for Ripley’s Believe it or Not. The latest in the series from Ripley Publishing is Ripley's Believe It or Not! Enter If You Dare, a yearbook of the weird. The book is a collection of the strangest stories from around the globe. Ripley's experts on the extraordinary can bring these stories to life, including:

A Wisconsin man spent 17 years building a sports car in his cellar - then realized he had no way to get it out of his house. You won't believe what he did to get it out!  A Nepal teenager is the smallest man on earth. He stands 22 inches tall and weights just 10 pounds.  A Chicago woman needed something to wear to a party, so she made a dress out of salami and bacon.   A man spent 15 years and used 4,000,000 matchsticks to build a model of an oil rig.

Our second Guest wanted to create Hearing Aids That Don’t Cost a Fortune for his patients and others.  Sreekant Cherukuri, MD, Board-Certified Ear, Nose, & Throat Physician in Chicago, IL is the inventor of the MDHearingAid line. As an attending physician in otolaryngology, Dr. Cherukuri found that he saw too many patients with hearing loss going home without a solution because they couldn’t afford the hearing aid prices— many hundreds, or thousands, of dollars were usually needed to pay for them. As a physician, he knew the effects of untreated hearing loss: depression, social isolation, anxiety and symptoms consistent with Alzheimer’s dementia.  He then created the MDHearingAid line of hearing aids to exact technical specifications so that the range of sounds associated with the human voice would be amplified without overly amplifying background sounds. Hearing aid ratings on the flagship MDHearingAid PRO by leaders in the hearing loss field (ENT Physicians and Audiologists) show unanimous agreement that the sound quality and output is surprisingly accurate given its low cost. www.mdhearingaid.com

Our first Guest is Tom Miller, author of THE WAVE, "the Wave is an exhilarating thriller you won’t want to put down.  In THE WAVE a mere 6.8 earthquake on the island of Hawaii unleashes a 20-foot tsunami that wreaks major damage not only to Hawaii but to the entire West Coast.  Tom Miller believes that “one of the many volcanoes around the world will catastrophically collapse someday, most likely without warning, and generate a tsunami larger than any witnessed by man.”  Drawing on his background in geology, his knowledge of Hawaii, his experience as a scuba diver, pilot and sailor, Mr. Miller’s book is a must read!

Our Second Guest is Kris Appel, CEO of Medical Devices Company what is unusual about Ms. Appel, is that she didn't have business experience, a background in healthcare, or even an idea for a breakthrough technology. But she knew she wanted to start a company, so she did just that. "I knew I wanted to create something," Appel says. Now, Appel runs Baltimore-based Encore Path Inc., which makes a device for improving arm function and range of motion in stroke survivors.

Amir Aczel – Author of Present at the Creation will be joining us today. Amir takes us inside the control rooms at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research, located in the French-Swiss countryside), where scientists, using the biggest, and by far the most powerful, machine ever built—The Large Hadron Collider—attempt to recreate the hot and dense conditions that existed within the first trillionth of a second after the fiery birth of our universe. In particular, they are searching for Higgs boson, also known as the “God Particle” (introduced to the public at large in Dan Brown's thriller, Angels and Demons), because it is believed to imbue all particles with their mass. Will the Higgs boson make its breathlessly awaited appearance? Will the hidden dimensions posited by string theory be revealed? Will we at last identify the nature of the dark matter that makes up more than 90 percent of the cosmos? In his new book, Present at the Creation, Amir offers a backstage peek at the team working to find the answers.

Our Second Guests today are the The Joseph Decuis Team.  Joseph Decuis is a gourmet farm to fork fine dining restaurant celebrating its 10th year in business. They have grown to be much more than a restaurant over the 10 years and are working hard to keep growing. The restaurant started as just a way to stop the Proprietor husband from bringing clients home for lunch and dinner as she was raising their three small children. It has grown to become a major business starting with their farm which now raises beef (Wagyu beef also known as Kobe), veggies, herbs and eggs that they then serve in the restaurant. They have a full, state of the art production kitchen which also uses those products and we sell packaged gourmet soups, gumbos, chowder, prepared meat (Wagyu) dishes (and more) around the state and hopefully other areas soon, a shop they call the Emporium to also sell those products plus the beef and wine, and a bed & breakfast where diners can travel to enjoy the restaurant and our town and stay the night.

Alice Eshelman, Proprietor, Joseph Decuis.      A graduate of Denison University with a degree in theatre, Alice is the artistic soul and gracious hostess of Joseph Decuis. Originally from St. Louis, she has been instrumental in the aesthetic design of Joseph Decuis and the restoration of Roanoke’s downtown historic district. Alice helps oversee the marketing and coordinates the management of the Emporium and the Inn as well as the hens, eggs, veggies and herbs on the farm.

Pete Eshelman, CEO, Joseph Decuis & Farmer, Joseph Decuis Wagyu Farm.    Growing up in New Orleans, LA and then Dayton OH, upon graduation from Williams College, Pete was drafted by the New York Yankees and began his business career in the Yankees’ front office. Over the past 30 years, he founded two specialty sports insurances businesses that have since become part of public companies. Today, Pete’s passion is farming and producing the finest Wagyu beef in the world. He has a profound belief in the American Dream – anyone can achieve their dreams if they are willing to work hard for them. Now when he’s “dressed for the office”, he’s not in a coat and tie, he’s in jeans and boots.

Aaron Butts, Executive Chef, Joseph Decuis.       Aaron joined Joseph Decuis in 2000 as a line chef and quickly demonstrated the cooking, leadership, and management skills necessary for a world class restaurant, earning the Executive Chef position in 2005. He has worked as a stagier in Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant, The Fat Duck and has earned the Court of Masters Sommeliers certification. He established the local chapter of Slow Food USA and was honored to represent Indiana in Turin, Italy for the Terre Madre. Under Aaron’s leadership, Joseph Decuis has become an Indiana fine dining destination specializing in creative preparations of local farm raised seasonal foods and in August 2010 Aaron was the first featured Indiana chef honored to cook at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City.

Our First Guest   –John Nelson changed careers from Bookstore Bandit and Bank Robber to Prison Expert and Writer, but should be filed under "irreverence and humor" rather than "ex-con turns writer".  John Espinosa Nelson began writing in earnest while in transition from prison, writing radio spots, videos, and other promotional material for 2.13.61 Books, Modivation Films, DreamWorks, and Maverick Records.
His true labor of love, Where Excuses Go to Die, is an out-of-left-field, coming-of-age memoir that covers the four years he spent in the California Correctional System for robbery of (mostly) bookstores and banks. Spoken word and Poetry Slam performances of the material have delighted audiences and resulted in national radio interviews and speaking engagements at community colleges and drug and alcohol treatment centers across Southern California, where Nelson helps persuade others not to act upon their own worst ideas.

Do most Americans think is it pretty vanilla full of hot air with very little on substance.  While a Republican landslide in Nov may halt (or slow) down Obama’s progressive agenda (good news) the bad news is that the Republicans still haven’t learned anything since their crushing defeat in 2008.  Namely, they still haven’t figured out that Conservatism wins.  Conservatism works.

Our first guest is Ellen Galinsky, author of "Mind in the Making"-   Mind in the Making offers a new approach to understanding how our children learn.  Ellen Galinsky has identified seven critical areas that children need most. For each of these skills, Galinsky shows parents what the studies have proven, and she provides numerous concrete things that parents can do—starting today—to strengthen these skills in their children. These aren't the kinds of skills that children just pick up; these skills have to be fostered. They are the skills that give children the ability to focus on their goals so that they can learn more easily and communicate what they've learned. These are the skills that prepare children for the pressures of modern life, skills that they will draw on now and for years to come.

Our second guest on the show today is Dr. Ted S. Eisenberg, discussing the topic Mommy Makeovers., Dr Eisenberg DO, FACOS, FAACS, has more than 20 years of experience as a plastic surgeon. He is double-board certified, sits on many boards, has taught surgeons from around the country and is a frequent contributor to the American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery. Dr. Eisenberg holds the Guinness Book of World Records for most breast surgeries -- 4,500 -- but he stresses that it’s not about the numbers. It’s about quality and offering women a better experience, which is why he has devised a new procedure that combines two of the most popular procedures – breast augmentation and breast lift – into a single operation that maximizes the lift and minimizes the scarring. The new technique, which is done under general anesthesia, takes about three and a half hours. Patients are home the same day, according to Dr. Eisenberg.

Our first guest is Antoinette Kuritz. According to a study, 80% of Americans say they have a book in them. Getting it out requires the art, craft and business of writing! It begins with a love of words ...  Antoinette Kuritz turned her love of words to a multi-media enterprise.  A Literary Publicist, Publishing and Media Coach, author, Host of Writers Roundtable Radio Show, KUSI-TV “Book Lady”, Founder of the LaJolla Writers Conference, wife-of-one, mother-of-three, grandma-of three, … and soon to be Publisher ...   Hosting over 360 radio shows, she picked the brains of top names in the book industry including NYT authors like Tess Gerritsen, Michael Conelly, Lisa Jackson, Stephen J. Canell, James Rollins …   Celebrating its 10th anniversary the LaJolla Writers Conference in San Diego continues to “pay it forward”  providing an inexpensive, informative, intimate, gathering of established authors, agents editors, distributors… all teaching the art, craft and business of writing to writers of all levels.

Our third guest is Darrell Ahrens.  Darrell Ahrens isn’t an intolerant man, but he believes that intolerance has its place in America today -- and that it’s not a negative thing.  “Sometimes intolerance can be a genuine expression of love,” said Ahrens, a retired marine and former Air Force Officer, as well as author of the book "Divine Love / Divine Intolerance" from Elderberry Press. “As an example, the idea of placing a mosque on ground zero in New York City has people slinging the word intolerance around like an arrow, when in fact the people attempting to block the mosque at its current location are showing their love for their country and for the surviving families of 9-11 through that supposed intolerance.”  Ahrens believes that the mosque project is an attempt to put a punctuation mark on the 9-11 attack on Judeo-Christian America by taking advantage of our country’s practice of religious freedom.     “If the mosque is allowed to be located on ground zero land, we would wake up to the laughter of Islamic extremists around the world and embolden their holy war against us,” Ahrens added. “Not just for our national pride, but for our national security, this mosque must not be allowed to stand on the sacred territory known as ground zero.”

Don Kennedy, our Political Expert, will discuss the Cause for Optimism in the Political Upheaval in the US. There is much talk within the mainstream media right now that “the Tea Party is dead”.   Efforts to cast the grassroots movement as racist, illegitimate, short-lived or all together contrived might appease the left, but bear no resemblance to reality.  The “silent majority,” as Nixon termed the conservative-minded, non-activist mass of middle-Americans, has now gathered enough steam to make a substantive impact on the political landscape.  I believe that while things will undoubtedly get worse, we are at a turning point.  It may not be until we examine look back through a more objective prism of history that we will identify the precise apex of this American revival.  But it might just be this summer.
